Daphne Blau,
Fiber Artist & Show Promoter
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I grew up in
the 70’s, an only child with a big imagination! My
stuffed animals provided hours of entertainment when I
was young. As I grew I continued to cherish my dear
furry friends. Through high school, college and a 15+
year career in retail management my beloved teddy bears
have shared my joys and tears and kept all my deepest
secrets safe. I never dreamed they'd become a full-time
business though!
In 2000 I
discovered the world of handmade, collectible bears and
after finding an artist to teach me the basics of
creating these wonderful critters I was hooked! In 2001
I began designing my own bears and participated in my
first teddy bear show in 2002. I soon began selling my
patterns and teaching workshops. The quality of my work
was recognized and rewarded with juried membership into
the League of NH Craftsmen in 2004. I put my
education and experience in sales and marketing to good
use in 2005 when I became a teddy bear show promoter,
creating upscale artisan shows in New England and
Chicago. In 2007 I created the plush bunny Mimzy who
stared in the New Line Cinema movie “The Last
Mimzy” and was later created in limited editions
by Tonner Doll Co.
My work,
including interviews, photos and patterns have been
published in Teddy Bear & Friends
magazine, Teddy Bear Review magazine and
Teddy Bear Club International magazine as
well as in many local and regional newspapers and
special interest publications over the years. In 2007
local TV show, NH Chronicle, came to my studio to
do an interview.

I am
constantly creating new designs and experimenting with
special techniques. I strive for quality in materials
and construction and originality in design. I continue
to teach bear making and promote some of the top teddy
bear shows in the US. I love to share my passion with
just about anyone who will listen and feel very blessed
to be able to ‘work’ full-time at something I love.
My husband
Henry and I live in a quaint New England town in the
mountains of New Hampshire with our two wheaten
terriers, Tucker and Riley. We enjoy hiking, kayaking
and gardening as well as antiquing and photography.
Thank you
for stopping by to see my work and learn a little about
me!
May your
life be blessed with love, laughter and a teddy bear or
two!
Hugs,
Daphne
